Valuejet Aircraft Skids Off Runway in Port Harcourt as NSIB Begins Probe

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) says it has commenced investigation into an incident at the Port Harcourt Airport, involving an aircraft belonging to Valuejet Airlines.

The incident which occurred around 3:32pm local time on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, involved a Bombardier CRJ-900LR aircraft with Nationality and Registration Marks 5N-BXR.

According to a statement by the Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, NSIB, Dr James Odaudu, the agency’s Investigators are already at the scene at the scene to unravel the immediate and remote causes of the incident.

“The aircraft, with 62 passengers and 5 crew upon landing at the Port Harcourt International Airport from Lagos overshot the runway at runway 03.

“There was no injury or fatality, as all the passengers and crew members were safely evacuated and no damage to the aircraft was reported.

“The Bureau appeals to the public and the media to avoid speculations about the likely causes, while also respecting the privacy of those on board”, the statement added.

The NSIB is a multimodal investigation agency charged with the mandate to investigate transportation accidents and serious incidents in Nigeria with the aim of identifying the probable causes and proffer safety recommendations that can prevent reoccurrence.
